It's a historic milestone that highlights the fruit’s growing popularity and the strength of the industry’s supply chain.

“This is a landmark moment for the avocado industry,” said Emiliano Escobedo, HAB’s Executive Director. “Surpassing 3 billion pounds isn’t just a number: it reflects the sustained efforts of growers, importers, and marketing partners who have worked together to meet rising demand across the United States.”

According to forecasts, this total would represent a 4% increase compared with the previous year. It reflects enduring consumer interest in avocados, widely seen as a versatile and nutrient-rich food. HAB also points to industry initiatives aimed at ensuring year-round availability, strengthening quality, and improving consumer awareness of avocado benefits.

The release also underscores the collective work that has helped shift avocado from a niche product—sometimes misunderstood—into a staple in U.S. produce departments. The documentary Avocado Nation: An American Success Story retraces this transformation and the evolution of opportunities for growers and importers since the Hass Avocado Board was created in 2002, following the establishment of the Hass Avocado Promotion, Research and Information Order (HAPRIO).

“Avocados have become a household staple in America, and this milestone shows just how deeply they’ve become embedded in the country’s food culture,” Escobedo added. “Looking ahead, HAB remains committed to supporting the industry through data-driven insights, strategic marketing, and collaborative innovation.”
