Morocco continues to strengthen its footprint on the global fruit and vegetable stage.

Morocco Boosts Fruit and Vegetable Exports by 120%

This reflects a steady recovery after recent drought cycles and underscores the country’s rising prominence in international markets.

According to Italiafruit News, the Kingdom has now established itself as one of the leading Mediterranean players in the fresh produce trade, with its agricultural economy evolving from a regional role to a decidedly global stature. Data shows that Moroccan fruit and vegetable exports increased by 120% in volume and quintupled in value between 2005 and 2023.

This momentum is driven by strong performances in key export crops such as berries, avocados and tomatoes — segments that have become particularly competitive over the past two decades. Overall fruit production has risen by 33% in twenty years, while tomatoes remain the cornerstone of Morocco’s vegetable export sector, accounting for nearly half of total volumes, or around 600,000 tonnes.

In April 2025, figures from EastFruit highlighted Morocco’s rising influence in global markets, supported notably by its expansion into several Asian destinations through a partnership between Moroccan group Delassus, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Morocco’s export growth has now reached 500% over the past twenty years, propelled both by a diversified product offering and the opening of new markets. The United Kingdom and the Netherlands currently absorb 29% of Morocco’s fresh produce exports, while France and Spain account for 49%. The United States and Canada remain consistent buyers, importing primarily Moroccan citrus.

Italy’s imports of Moroccan produce remain modest but stable, reflecting the Kingdom’s increasing competitiveness within the European and Mediterranean markets.

Morocco’s trajectory reflects a profound and lasting transformation of its agro-export model, positioning the Kingdom as a key supplier for both European and emerging markets.
