During the same week, the company also hosted a Meet & Greet that gathered nearly 100 professionals from the entire berry value chain — including growers, distributors, and retailers — from both the region and abroad. At these events, Planasa presented several of its blueberry varieties that are currently expanding across Southern Africa, including Blue Maldiva, Blue Madeira, and Blue Manila. These varieties stand out for their excellent adaptation to local growing conditions and their growing market presence.
Award-Winning Varieties Recognized Worldwide
The Blue Maldiva has received international recognition, winning both the Best Flavor Award and the Most Popular Variety Award at the China Blueberry Conference earlier this year. Meanwhile, the Blue Madeira was honored at the 2024 Superior Taste Award in Brussels. Both varieties are characterized by large fruit size, exceptional firmness, and consistent quality throughout the season.
Commitment to Innovation and Growth in Southern Africa
Through its participation in the IBO Summit and related events, Planasa reaffirmed its commitment to genetic research and innovation in the berry sector, as well as to the expansion of its operations in Southern Africa, particularly in Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
