This launch marks Egypt’s entry into large-scale blueberry production. This initial phase represents an investment of EGP 442.2 million (approximately USD 14 million) and forms part of the group’s strategy to diversify into higher value-added, export-oriented crops.
The start of operations was confirmed during an official visit by Cairo 3A’s senior management, during which the project’s infrastructure, production model and phased development plans were presented. The project is based on carefully selected varieties, modern cultivation practices and export-ready systems aligned with international market requirements.
A flagship project focused on European markets
Ali El Gameel, Managing Director of the agricultural division at Cairo 3A, stated that the launch reflects the group’s expansion strategy and its strong positioning in export markets. He noted that the project is among the largest specialized blueberry investments in Egypt and has been designed to meet European market standards through the adoption of advanced production techniques.
According to Ali El Gameel, the project will be developed in three phases, with total investments exceeding EGP 1.7 billion (around USD 55 million). Once fully implemented, the development will cover 550 feddans (approximately 231 hectares) and is expected to reach an annual production capacity of around 8,000 tonnes. Annual revenues could reach up to USD 80 million once all phases are completed.
Phased expansion over three years
The first phase, launched in 2025, covers 150 feddans (approximately 63 hectares).
The second phase, scheduled for 2026, will add 200 feddans (around 84 hectares), followed by a third phase in 2027 covering an additional 200 feddans.
Ali El Gameel noted that Egypt is still at an early stage in commercial blueberry production, with current volumes largely limited to small and medium-sized operations.
International partnerships to structure the value chain
The project is being developed in partnership with international players. Berry World is involved as the varietal breeder, while Berry World and Agriventure are responsible for marketing. Production is primarily destined for the European Union and the United Kingdom, markets known for their strict quality and compliance requirements.
Ali El Gameel added that the project aims to strengthen Egypt’s still limited presence in the global fresh blueberry market by building consistent volumes based on quality and sustainability. Beyond production, the initiative is intended to support export growth, agricultural diversification and the introduction of new export categories for Egypt.
Cairo 3A also confirmed that it will continue investing in agricultural infrastructure and international partnerships to ensure the long-term sustainability of the blueberry project and to further support its export-oriented agricultural activities in Egypt.
