Morocco is strengthening its position in the European frozen fruit sector, marking a new milestone in 2025 with record imports of frozen raspberries into the Netherlands.

Morocco Hits Record Growth in Dutch Frozen Raspberry Market

This performance confirms the country’s rapid expansion beyond fresh produce into higher-value processed fruit segments.

Record growth in exports to the Netherlands

In 2025, Dutch imports of Moroccan frozen raspberries reached around 1,000 tons, valued at more than EUR 2 million. This represents a 50% increase compared to 2024 and a fourfold rise versus 2023 levels.

The sharp growth highlights Morocco’s accelerating presence in the frozen fruit category, which is increasingly seen as a strategic export segment.

The Netherlands as a key European distribution hub

The Netherlands plays a central role in the European frozen fruit trade, acting as a logistics and redistribution hub. Around 60–70% of imported frozen berries are re-exported after repackaging or branding operations.

Overall Dutch imports of frozen raspberries reached 13,500 tons in 2025, up 21% year-on-year and more than double the 2023 volume. Poland remains the leading supplier, followed by Germany, Chile, and Serbia, while Morocco has entered the top five suppliers for the first time with a 7.4% market share.

Structural shift in Morocco’s berry industry

This expansion reflects a broader transformation in Morocco’s fruit sector. Traditionally focused on fresh exports, the country is now rapidly scaling up its frozen berry production capacity.

Compliance with international standards such as Global G.A.P. and BRC has been a key factor in this transition. Dutch importers report that Moroccan frozen raspberries now meet European benchmarks in terms of cleaning, sorting, and overall quality.

Expanding footprint across European markets

Morocco’s growth in the Netherlands is part of a wider expansion across Europe. In 2025, the country also recorded a new export high in frozen raspberries shipped to France, reinforcing its competitive position in the EU frozen fruit market.

This diversification highlights Morocco’s increasing integration into European supply chains for processed fruit products.

Outlook: consolidation in the frozen fruit segment

The rapid rise of Moroccan frozen raspberry exports reflects a strategic shift toward value-added agricultural products. With improved compliance, stronger logistics integration, and expanding market access, Morocco is consolidating its position in the European frozen fruit sector.

In the coming years, continued investment in processing capacity and quality standards is expected to further strengthen this upward trajectory.
