Morocco breaks export records for frozen strawberries in the US market

This performance marks a turning point for the Moroccan strawberry sector, strengthening its position in one of the world’s most strategic markets.

Between January and October 2025, the United States imported 7,900 tonnes of Moroccan frozen strawberries, with a total value of USD 19 million. This represents a 22% increase compared to the previous year and exceeds the previous record set in 2019 by 15%.

The United States: a key market for Morocco’s strawberry sector

Morocco ranks among the world’s top five exporters of frozen strawberries. The United States, by far the world’s largest importer, is Morocco’s primary destination market. Over the first ten months of 2025, the US market accounted for 17.3% of Morocco’s total frozen strawberry exports.

Shipments are distributed throughout the year, with a seasonal peak between May and August. June 2025 stood out as the most dynamic month, with 2,500 tonnes exported to the United States.

A shifting international landscape

Mexico remains the leading supplier to the US market, accounting for around half of total imports, supported by geographic proximity and the USMCA trade agreement. Other major suppliers include Chile, Peru, Egypt and Morocco.

However, Mexican exports have recently declined due to a combination of factors, including climate-related production challenges, food safety concerns and the introduction of anti-dumping duties by the Trump administration in March 2025.

A strategic opportunity for Morocco

Against this backdrop, despite rising demand, overall US imports of frozen strawberries have declined, prompting buyers to diversify their sourcing toward alternative suppliers in Central America and Africa, notably Peru, Guatemala and Morocco.

This market reconfiguration has enabled Moroccan exporters to achieve record sales in the United States, confirming Morocco’s growing role as a strategic supplier of value-added frozen products in the global market.
