The shift marks a significant reshaping of global trade flows, placing the Kingdom just behind Mexico and the Netherlands in export volume.
In 2024, Morocco shipped 767,000 tonnes of fresh tomatoes—well ahead of Spain’s 638,000 tonnes and Turkey’s 492,000 tonnes. The country’s rise has been striking: back in 2005, Morocco exported only 217,000 tonnes, ranking fifth globally.
The country’s growing export power is reflected not only in volumes but also in value. Moroccan tomato exports generated €1.066 billion (approximately $1.15 billion) in 2024, surpassing Spain’s €1.015 billion (around $1.10 billion). This represents an almost tenfold increase compared with the €113 million (about $122 million) recorded in 2005.
According to Hortoinfo, these figures underscore Morocco’s expanding influence in the global tomato industry and highlight the ongoing shifts in production and export dynamics among the world’s leading suppliers.
